The company was established in the late 1960s by Jerry Madrid, who honed his surfboard shaping skills in his parents' Southern California garage. In addition to his work as a firefighter, Jerry also shaped skateboards in his free time and recruited his brothers Jim and Jeff to help run the business in 1976.
